FALMOUTH, JAMAICA
from what we have seen there is not a whole lot to do in Falmouth, we have been there in 2014 and 2017, our first visit we took the local bus to Montego Bay, about a 45 min drive, i had lived in Montego Bay while living there as a missionary so we mostly drove around to see places i had been before, also went to dead end beach where the beach is right next to the end of the runway, no major attractions there.
our second visit we went to Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios, its about an hour drive from Falmouth, if you have never been to Dunns River Falls it is definitely worth going, more info on that on the Ocho Rios page
there are some beaches in Falmouth that people have suggested, one that seemed better than others and isn’t hit by as many tourists is Burwood here is some info one guy on trip advisor shared.
Money, in Jan 2017 the exchange rate is $120J to $1US, most everyone takes US money.
Transportation,
Taxis, in general seem a little more expensive than other places we have been, the taxis in the port area will be more expensive, if you get out of the port area you will find some that are less and can be negotiated with but are still trying to get tourist prices out of you, if you want to save the most ask a local where the local taxis are (preferably someone that would not have something to gain by sending you to his “friend” that is a taxi driver charging tourist prices, ask someone selling coconuts or T-shirts) , a local taxi would charge a few dollars to go to a local beach and you could arrange a time for him to pick you back up.
Local Bus, little mini vans that run from city to city, usually a 14 passenger Toyota style that they will try to get 16-18 people in, when we went to Montego Bay we took this, here is where the bus picks up and drops off, its about a 5 min walk from the port area, a taxi driver got down to about $100 to take us to MoBay and back (2 of us), local bus was about $3 per person each way.
