NASSAU, BAHAMAS
We went to Nassau in Sept 2016, a little rainy the day we went but we did enjoy it.
Transportation,
Taxis, taxi fares are based on two passengers; there is an additional charge of $3 for each extra passenger. others have said They’re equipped with meters but will usually refuse to use them, so agree on the fare in advance. Expect to pay $15-$20 for downtown to Cable beach
Ferry boats (water taxis) can take you between Nassau and Paradise Island . Tickets can be purchased at the tour desk at Festival Place and at Woodes Rogers Wharf right next door. Tickets cost about $6 per person and the trip is approximately 10 minutes each way. Ferries leave every half hour on the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Buses, the most economical transportation, Public buses or “jitneys,” are generally 32-seaters and travel to many parts of the island. They operate from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily, except on Sundays when there is reduced service. The fare ranges from $1.25 per person to $3.50 for out-of-town zones. You can ask the driver to stop anywhere along the way, let the driver know where you want to go and usually they will help let you know when you are at the right place. You Pay as you leave the bus, exact change only (or let them keep the extra), $1.25 for adults and $.75 cents for children.
Currency,
in the Bahamas they use the Bahamian Dollar but they will accept US money, the exchange rate is 1:1 (same value as US dollar).
Beaches,
we decided to go to Saunders Beach, (map here) it is a little out of town just before Cable Beach, and is used more by locals, Restroom facilities and a playground make it a good place for taking families, we took the Cable Beach bus to get there, it is the #10 Jitney to Cable Beach and loads passengers on George & Bay Streets Map from cruise terminal to bus stop about a 5 min. walk from the ship, the bus is very easy to use and only cost $1.25 each way! to catch the return bus from Saunders beach just walk out to the road and flag a #10 bus going back to town.
Snorkeling,
We did some snorkeling at Saunders, nothing real impressive, we stayed around the rocks by the beach, others have said a little farther out there is some better snorkeling, here is a little video of snorkeling there around the rocks.
